In this tutorial, we will explain you how to configure the reverse dns records (PTR or rDNS).

First, access our ipam panel on address https://ipam.xervers.pt

Then, type the username and password you received on the service email (or your password if you already changed it).

Note: If you subscribed more services, only the 1^st username and password are valid. On ipam, you can access all service PTR from the same account.

After you have logged in, a dashboard is presented to you. This dashboard shows you all used and free ips on each subnet, has well with history info. You can configure it to your needs.

Now, to configure the IPv4 PTR records (it’s the same steps for IPv6), go to the menu “Subnets” and “IPv4”.

The new page will present you all subnets that are available to your account for configuration. The menu on the left will show you the subnet you are in in this moment.
Info: The subnet that starts with a folder, indicates that there is one or several subnets inside it. The subnet with a “>” sign, indicates that is an end subnet.
Click on the subnet you want to configure PTR records.

The next page will show you the Subnet details:

This section contains:

1. Information about the subnet:

   1. The subnet itself (Subnet details).

   2. To which master subnet, the subnet belongs to (Hierarchy).

   3. On which server this subnet is configured (Subnet description).

   4. If you are allowed to make changes to it or not (Permission).

   5. The subnet usage.

   6. The gateway of the subnet (Gateway).

   7. The nameservers in use.

2. Action buttons for you to do some actions related to this subnet.

3. List of used/configured IPs on the subnet.

4. Action buttons to configure that specific IP address.

This section is where you should be to configure the PTR records for all IPs (Master or Failover).

We will explain now how you proceed to configure a Master IP (To configure a failover IP, click here).

1. Look for the Master IP address of your server on the list and click on pencil on the right to show up the “Edit IP address” form:

2. Now on this form, change the Hostname and click on “Edit IP” button to save the modifications.

You just changed the PTR record of the Master IP of your server.

To configure a failover IP address, you need a spreadsheet editor (we will use Microsoft Excel on our tutorial, but you can do the same on your preferred editor).

Back to the subnet details section, you have the Action buttons:

1. This button is used to import the subnet list details

The following form will show up with the data that will be exported and the name of the file that will be downloaded. Simply, click “Export” and save the file somewhere on your computer.

Now, open the file with your preferred spreadsheet (we will use excel on our tutorial)

Now, you can edit existing records and/or add new ones.

Important Note: Any IP address that you will add that is NOT on the subnet will provide an error on the import and will not be added. So, add only the IPs that belong that subnet.

Save the spreadsheet file and return to the ipam panel and click on the Import button (1).

On the form, click “Browse” and select the file you just saved

After the upload successful of the file, click on “Show uploaded subnets” for the system read and identify the data on the file

If there is no error during the reading and identification of the IPs on the file, the panel will show you the IPs with the new hostnames you set on the file.

If everything is ok, click on “Yes”. If there is an error, click on “No”, correct the data on the file and re-upload it.

The IPs are now updated/added to the system and PTR records configured.

For future edits, you can just export the IPs, modify the spreadsheet file and re-import it to update.
